Construction on Grand Central Coffee Station began September 2003; however, the idea had been constructed for many years. We were living in Richland, Washington and were surrounded by coffeehouses and coffee shops on every corner. Originally from Storm Lake, we knew their hometown would be a great location for a drive-thru coffeehouse. We planned a trip to Storm Lake to support our relatives during their farm equipment auction and decided it would be a good chance to invest time and energy into their dream of owning a coffeehouse. After looking at several locations, they picked a corner lot that was a main road to the hospital, clinics and out-of-town travelers. The deal on the property was signed before we left Storm Lake (we also had signed the deal to close on selling their house when they returned to Richland!). |

After packing their entire house and traveling over 1800 miles with a U-haul, U-haul trailer, two vehicles and a boat, we rested two days before beginning the leg work on designing and planning the best layout for our coffeehouse. John along with his brother and father constructed the entire building themselves, with John’s cousin doing the concrete work. We have made alterations to the building and added a storage shed as business warranted. Today, we're continuing to learn more about coffee, tea and other ways to offer the west coast flair to our Midwest customers. Stop in today and say you read our story! |
